We're Almost Ready! - 28th March 2013

Despite it coming up to the end of March, winter hasn't loosened it's grips just yet!

Mother nature dumped a lorry load off snow on parts of our wee country on the 22nd March, bringing many areas of the country to a standstill, under snow drifts of up to 20 feet.   This combined with bitter winds makes show season seem so far away.

Despite this, my husband has been braving the elements to get our baby ready for MOT.   We were both hoping for another trouble free MOT but to our dismay, during his MOT checks he discovered that a few areas on the sills that were weak, clearly last years rain had been the final nail in their coffin!

So out came the welder and so began the arduous task of repairing them.   With the sills repaired and painted he moved on to some more repairs, freeing up the handbrake, replacing a rear brake cylinder and a dozed pipe on the left carb and the usual electrical problems that come from the car being laid up for 6 months.   Finally the emissions were checked - they were 3 time the legal limit, with the carbs adjusted and emissions lowered the baby was ready for MOT.

Thursday 28th March, we both headed off to the MOT centre.   It felt so good to be back in the SD1 after almost 6 months.   However, she started to run a bit lumpy as we approached the centre.   We pulled over and my husband fiddled around with the carbs for a minute or 2, which seemed to solve the problem.

We pulled up in lane four and my husband asked me if I wanted to take it through, but I declined, exited the car and went to the waiting room.  Some 25 minutes later my husband returned clutching the pass certificate.

Today, we will be heading off to the tax office to purchase our tax disc and that will be us ready for our first outing of the year, on Easter Monday and show season.   Now all we need is for the weather to warm up!
