KILLUCAN, ALL IRELAND ROVER SHOW - 8TH MAY 2011

The Rover Enthusiasts Club of Ireland held it's 5th Annual Car Show at Killucan, Co West Meath on Sunday 8th May 2011.  The Classic Rover Club (NI) and The 75 and MG ZT Club both had stands, once again dividing our loyalties.  On this occasion we opted to take the 75 because of the good fuel economy that it gives.

We left home at 7.30am and met the other club member at Sprucefield, Lisburn.  We were the 3rd car to arrive at Sprucefield, parked up and joined the others in McDonalds where they were enjoying an early morning coffee.

The original plan was to leave Sprucefield at 8.00am but we had to hang around waiting for the secretary of The 75 and MG ZT Club and his wife to arrive.  At 8.15am 2 P6's, 1 P6, 1 P5, 1 Rover 75 CDTi, 1 Rover 75 Tourer, 1 MG ZT V6 160, 1 Triumph and a Rover 25 set off in convoy to travel the 99 miles to Killucan.   The journery down went without a hitch.

We arrived at the show field at 10.30am and after a bit of a chat the drivers set about buffing and polishing their cars.

Whilst the owners were cleaning their cars they were approached by a guy selling "Snap Seal" wax.  This is a product used to wash and wax your car at the same time without the use of water, it removes dirt, bugs and tar and leaving a high gloss finish.  He demonstrated the product on a number of the cars and the results were pretty spectacular.  I have to say that in my opinion it really brings the colour out, making the colours look more vibrant, however I feel thata it is most effective on darker coloured cars.

Look at the shine on this car after it had been cleaned with Snap Seal.  If you look at the picture you will see that the drivers wing and door haven't been cleaned yet, look how dull it looks.

Despite the long distance to this venue The 75 and MG ZT Club members didn't let the club secretary down, 12 members turned up from across Ireland.

There was a number of things happening around the field to keep the spectators entertained over the course of the afternoon including fairground rides, auto jumble, tug of war, dog show, football competition and the landing of the Garda Siochana helicopter.

After a few people had left our stand I remembered that my husband hadn't presented the Ultimate Rover Accessory.  He almost chickened out of doing it but with a little persuasion he agreed to show it to the other members.

Yes, you're seeing right, this is him showing of his colour co-ordinated toe nails.  I had persuaded him to let me paint to co-ordinate with our car.  I doubt if I'll ever be able to coax the other guys to do this, but it did get a laugh.  I think that they might think that my husband has taken leave of his senses.

We departed the show around 5.00pm, by which time there were only 3 members from Northern Ireland left, we decided to drive back North in convoy.  We stopped a few times along the way for fuel, munchies and a Burger King.  We arrived back home at 9.30pm absolutely exhausted after the long day.

Despite the early start, the long drive and the less than favourable weather (overcast and very windy weather, but at least it stayed dry) we had an amazing day at a great show with an highly entertaining bunch of lads.
